Our Skiing Adventure Trip to Austria in 2022

Our skiing trip in January, 2022 – A report by Nelly Radau (EF)

Looking back on amazing nine days in Zillertal, Austria I have a lot to tell…

I had been excited about the skiing trip for three years, so my expectations were quite high, but I have to say that it was even better than I could have imagined.

Before we could get on the bus on Thursday evening, we all had to do a Covid test to ensure safety for all of us. After all our results were luckily negative, we were able to take on the 11-hour-drive to our destination which turned out to be fun already.

From the stories my family had told me about their skiing experiences I knew it was going to be a blast. Our first skiing day turned out to be very exciting for everyone. Even though we were pretty much all beginners the whole group learned very quickly. On the second or third day, nearly all of us were ready for the red slopes. With the help and support of our teachers and each other we continued to become more confident in our skiing skills for the next days. And even though we only had a total of six days of skiing me and some friends – all beginners – were able to ski the black slope towards the end of the trip. Surprisingly none of us had any serious injuries and it is safe to say that every single one of us had lots of fun skiing together.

Another highlight was going sledding on an illuminated track. We were also incredibly lucky with the weather throughout the whole weak. The view from our location and on the slopes was unbelievable and will be remembered forever. Even though we were all pretty tired after a whole day of skiing, we still made the best of every evening: we hung out with friends, got to know people better and used the free time area in our guest house. The group was able to spend the last evening together talking and singing our hearts out, having fun one last time in Austria. We were all very relieved to see that none of the Covid tests throughout the week was positive and we were able to start our trip home all together.

On the bus ride, the good spirit stayed as we started yet another karaoke session.

After the teachers and parents had fought very hard to make this skiing trip happen, I can say that it was an incredible once in a lifetime experience I will never forget and I hope everyone reading this will be able to take part in it in the next years.

Our adventure to Austria in January, 2022 – A report by Lena Engelmann (EF)

After a lot of effort and hard work from our parents and teachers, the time had finally com…

So, on 20th January, 38 people including me and three teachers went to Austria. There was a youth hostel in Zillertal, Austria. The trip started on Thursday evening half past 7. Our form was not able to make the graduation trip in class ten. This was especially the result of Corona, so we were happier than ever that the skiing trip we all had been waiting for was now about to start. So everyone was excited. After having done our Covid test which turned out to be negative, we goton the bus. Considered all the breaks the bus drivers did, it took 11 hours to go to our destination in Zillertal where we finally arrived at 6 a.m.

Luckily there, we borrowed our skiing equipment, explored the youth hostel, went for a little walk with our friends and did a lot of organisation stuff. On our first skiing day, we were separated into four groups. Each group was getting help from a teacher and practised how to ski. So, the next day, a few of us already went skiing on a red slope.

In general, it was really nice to see that everyone was learning so fast, so that all of us were able to ski on the red slope – and in the end most of us also the black one – without many problems. On some of these slopes, there were also a fewother fun activities we did, like for example the fun park, speed check or slalom track.

With the help of our teachers, on the 5th or 6th day we couldcreate groups ourselves and were allowed to go skiing alonewith our friends on different parts of the mountains. This was pretty much fun. The view on the top of the mountains and the atmosphere in general was incredible. Moreover, we decided to go sledding on Tuesday evening after skiing. For me, this was one of the highlights because I laughed a lot and had a lotof fun with my friends.

In the evening, most of us were very tired, but a few still spent time sitting together, talking about the day and what the next one might be like. But by far the greatest evening was the last one because there we all came together. We sang karaoke and were talking about different things even with people we had not talked to much before. We all got the same energy on that day, so it was very sad that after that we could no longer spent such an evening together. On Friday morning (28th January, 2022) at 9 o’clock, we went back home. Even though everyone was really tired and a little bit sad, the bus drive turned out to be fun. There we repeated the singing, slept a little bit and talked a lot. Finally, at 8 p.m., we arrived in Germany.

Thankfully, no one had been seriously hurt when skiing and through the constant Corona testing we also were able to say that no one had been infected.

Finally, I can say for me that I have made a lot of great experiences and would repeat the trip any time. I had a lot of fun with my friends and now would recommend such a trip to everyone.
